"That was when we started writing the book." "She looked up on the shelf in my kitchen and she said, 'Mom, we should write a book about our elf tradition and share it with the world,' " Aebersold said. It was a tradition Bell remembered well when she looked up and saw the elf - sitting on a shelf. In the 1970s, when her kids were young, Fisbee became part of a family tradition.Īebersold would move him around the house each night, telling her children that he was making sure they were behaving, then flying back to the North Pole to report to Santa. Why don't you write a book?' "īut what to write? It was days after Christmas 2004 and Bell looked up to see Fisbee, a toy elf that her mom had received as a gift in the 1950s. And she said to me, 'Mom, you're such a good writer. "And I was trying to put into words what I was feeling on the inside. "I was telling (Bell) where I was in my life, which was at the very bottom - rock bottom," Aebersold said in a video on her now-thriving company's website. The two were sitting and drinking tea at what Aebersold describes as a low point in her life, when she lacked direction and hope for the future. Nick with his "naughty or nice" list, started as a book written and published in 2005 by metro Atlanta mom Carol Aebersold and her daughter, Chanda Bell. "The Elf on the Shelf," with its charming - or, if you ask some, creepy - scout elves who flit about homes helping St. But, with Christmas season barreling toward us, millions of homes in the United States and throughout the world will soon be visited by one of his most famous helpers, who was born at a kitchen table in Georgia. I want to give a big THANK YOU to The Country Chic Cottage, 30 Minute Crafts, and Laura Kelly Designs for allowing me to participate in the Craft Lightning Back to School Edition. I also included some other sweet notes and words of encouragement. What did Bacon say to Tomato? Lettuce get together! What do you call a fake noodle? An Impasta Little Old Lady who? I didn’t know you could yodel! Why do cows wear bells? Because their horns don’t work! What object is king of the classroom? The ruler! What do librarians take with them when they go fishing? Bookworms Why can’t you give Elsa a balloon? Because she will let it go! What did the pen say to the pencil? So, what’s your point? Here are the 10 I used for these printables: It was so much fun trying to recall all of these and ask my friends if they had any. The first sheet is ten kid friendly Jokes of the Day. There are 20 all together to last a full month. Get crafty and add a colorful boarder or a ribbon and embellish them with stickers or rhinestone s and you have a 15 minute craft for special days like test days, performance days, or any day! I made two sheets that you can print, both with 10 little notes to print, cut out, and slip into your child’s lunch box when you are packing it. I, however get a little “high” from doing stuff like this for my little lady. It didn’t make her a bad mom nor make me love her any less! She was and is still a great Mom. I didn’t get notes like this from my Mom, and that’s OK. My childhood was not your norm and I think it was due to cultural reasons. Now that my daughter is in school, I get so excited to do special things like these lunch box notes.
